What Kids Karate Classes at Our Letchworth Club Look Like
Our Letchworth classes welcome children from 4 upwards, taught by friendly, experienced, DBS-checked instructors. Classes combine kihon (basic techniques), kata (patterns), and light partner drills appropriate to age and grade, always in a safe, controlled, non-contact environment for junior classes.
No previous experience or equipment is required to try your first class. Just come in comfortable clothing.
New starters don’t need any equipment or experience, just comfortable clothing for the first couple of sessions. If your child decides to continue, we’ll guide you through kit (a karate gi) and grading.

While this post is aimed at parents looking for kids’ classes, it’s worth knowing Zanshin runs adult karate classes as well, for ages up to 65+. Several of our clubs, including Letchworth, are genuinely multi-generational, with parents training alongside their children.
We welcome children from around age 4, with class content adapted by age and ability so everyone is appropriately challenged.
No, just comfortable clothing. If your child continues after their free trial, we'll advise on a karate suit (gi).
Junior classes are non-contact and closely supervised, with a strong emphasis on control and respect. All instructors are DBS-checked and first-aid trained.
Classes are grouped appropriately by age and/or grade so children train alongside peers at a similar stage.
Yes, every new starter gets two free classes with no obligation.
